Medicare Part C

Medicare Part C is optional private insurance that you may join that will pay instead of original Medicare on your behalf.

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, or CMS, enters into contracts annually with private insurance companies that agree to provide Medicare Part A & B services for Medicare beneficiaries that enroll in these plans. The insurance company is then paid a monthly premium by Medicare to provide your healthcare services.

Medicare Part C today is called Medicare Advantage. These plans may have an additional premium that you are required to pay, as well as cost-sharing by you in the form of copays and coinsurance.
